Import transactions from a file
Load transactions from a CSV, OFX or QFX file your bank exports.
Accounts and data
Every plan can import transactions from a file. Paiso reads CSV files, and the OFX and QFX files that banks offer for Quicken and other money software.
Before you start
Download your transactions from your bank’s website. Most banks offer this on the account’s transaction or statement page.
- Choose OFX or QFX (sometimes labelled Quicken or Web Connect) when your bank offers it. Paiso reads these files as they are.
- Choose CSV otherwise. Paiso recognises the layout most banks use and asks you to match the columns when it does not.
Import
- Open Settings, then Accounts.
- Find the account the transactions belong to and select Import a file.
- Select your file.
- Review what Paiso found. Nothing is imported until you confirm.
- For an OFX or QFX file, Paiso shows the account in the file, its dates and the number of transactions.
- For a CSV file, Paiso shows the most recent rows, how many transactions are new, how many are already in Paiso, and any rows it could not read, with the reason for each. If a column looks wrong, match the columns by hand: date, description and amount.
- Confirm the import. Paiso may ask for the account’s balance on a date, so it can work out the balance history.
Paiso assigns a category to each transaction. You can change any category afterwards on the Transactions page.
Good to know
- Importing the same file twice does not create duplicates.
- An account that your bank updates automatically does not take files. Paiso already receives its transactions.
- A brokerage file brings in cash transactions. Paiso does not create holdings from the trades and positions in it; add holdings on the Investments page.
